Who is Generation Z?

Generation Z emerges

This is a great video about who Generation Z is and some of their defining characteristics. Mark McCrindle an Australian researcher provides some interesting insights. Here is a snapshot. Generation Z:

• Are well educated and the most technologically advanced generation.
• Are growing up in smaller households, with older parents.
• Are, up until recently, more materially endowed.
• Are headed for careers that don’t even exist today.
• Will have at least five careers and will have over 20 employers.
• Are very concerned about the environment.
• Have a sedentary lifestyle which is impacting their health – stress & obesity.

While there is no doubt that these are the characteristics of Generation Z today, we believe that some of the above trends will be significantly impacted by the current economic recession. These children will undoubtedly feel the stress experienced by this global recession, which will impact both their outlook and what they will expect from an employer. They may in fact turn out to be a much more conservative and frugal generation. We will keep a close watch on the impact of this downturn on Generation Z.
